About the programme

Aims and Outcomes

This programme will focus on the further development of a range of skills and knowledge to help participants set up, manage and achieve clear outcomes and plans from group work based activities.

Participants will work through a number of key group work stages applying clear group work management tools including session planning, delivery, creating individual learning as well as group learning, individual goal setting and action planning and evaluation. 

This will then move forward and allow participants to deliver a short piece of group work. This will be followed by individual feedback from the facilitator using a, “what went well and even better if” feedback framework.

By the end of the programme participants will have had the opportunity to:

  • Understand key group work theories and how to apply this understanding to group work delivery
  • Develop a clear structure to group work development ensuring that the materials, environment, activities and inputs help develop a dynamic that achieves group and individual learning
  • Develop individual goal setting and action planning skills to ensure group work delivery helps individual targeted outcomes and progression 
  • Mirror the process throughout the programme ensuring that everything can be applied to current requirements and individual work situations
  • Explore and expand the key skills of group work including facilitation, small group and large group learning, managing feedback, challenging group think, using group learning to develop individual understanding, individual goal setting and action planning and managing challenging behaviour 
  • Practice the range of group work skills through the delivery of a mini session 
  • Receive individual feedback on the group session delivery from the facilitator
