About the programme




If the outcomes and results for your organisation depend on good quality supervision provided by skilled managers and supervisors, this programme is essential.   

This programme can be delivered as an on-line only, face to face or blended approach to learning and is divided into 2 sessions.


Session 1 content
  • Understand and communicate the role that supervision should play in ensuring a positive experience for staff and managers and ensuring clear outcomes for service users/customers   
  • Evaluate and reflect on the outcomes of recent research on the role and usefulness of supervision within the organisation/department  
  • Understand organisational culture and the history of supervision establishing and challenging previous practice in light of policy requirements and outcomes of research   
  • Explore and demonstrate attitudes and skills of a supervisor, with particular reference to the “Reflective Supervisor”  
  • Evaluate and ensure that current arrangements, paperwork and outcomes of the supervision process are effective  
  • Use a model of empowering supervision relationships enabling staff to own and take responsibility for work outcomes as well as feel supported in the achievement of these outcomes  
  • Demonstrate a clear performance and quality assurance dimension to the supervision relationship, enabling performance to be part of the supervision conversation  
  • Establish an individual interim task    

Session 2 content

  • Review interim task and actions that need to take place as a result of this
  • Understand and evaluate a range of ways of helping staff manage their physical, and emotional wellbeing
  • Consider a range of advanced personal development and analytical skills including the role that critical thinking and analysis has in helping staff reflect on and improve their decision making and practice 
  • Reflect on and develop organisational responses to issues that emerge from supervision including development needs for individuals and the organisation
  • Produce an individual and organisational action plan.
